Sejong Camp Visiting Artists Auction – Summer 2018

Sejong Cultural Education, Inc.

*THIS AUCTION HAS ENDED*

Our organization actively seeks out and recruits talented and diverse artists to visit camp each year to expose campers to the rich variety of traditional and contemporary arts within Korean culture. Should an artist be interested in promoting their artistry to parents and camp supporters, they have an opportunity to donate the fruits of their artistry to Sejong for fundraising purposes.

We are delighted to offer oil landscape paintings by artist HyoKeun O and knotted silk jewelry (maedeup) from artist KJ Ahn for this year’s Sejong Camp Visiting Artists Auction.  Bios of each artist follow the auction items below.

HyoKeun O is a landscape and portrait artist from Seoul.  He is a former high school math teacher and principal who went back to art school (Hongik University) after retiring in 2009. Mr. O has always loved painting and has painted landscapes of Korea for more than thirty years.  Recently his focus has been on oil portraiture and life figure drawings.  Mr. O still attends art classes and loves learning every day.  He lives in Seoul and visits his daughter and grandchildren in Brooklyn every other year.

About Maedeup (from Visiting Artist KJ Ahn):

“Maedeup, the traditional Korean knot, developed into a distinctive decorative art and practical use through its long history. It was used in not only fashion, household and ritual items but also court ceremonies, the lives of the common people. It was also used to adorn musical instruments, fans, dresses, flags and palanquins. Today, knots are widely used as modern ornaments in accessories and for art.”
